Seems like a peaceful, clean, lovely place. I just learned that my ancestor 10 generations hence, John McEun (we spell it McEwen over in the US) was born in your town in 1670. Hope to visit one day; I can see why they settled there.

This site is a very valuable resource, well done. Such detailed and comprehensive views of a community aren't often found. Thank you!

Can anybody tell me if a house called Weatherlea in Killearn, Stirling still stands. My more recent ancestors lived there between about 1881-91 named McHarg.

Hi.I am doing a little local research and would be delighted if anyone can help. I am looking for any information regarding what was "Maggie Harpers field" which is now Harpers road. I understand it was owned by Glasgow Academicals war memorial trust before being sold for development in the 1970's. I am particularly interested in photos pre development and any history of Maggie Harper herself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

I was born in Killearn in 1942 an left when I was five years old. I spent a year at Primary school before moving to Larkhall. I now live in Mayfield, East Sussex. Moved here in 2003 but visited Killearn with my daughter and grandchildren before we moved to show them where I was born.

I have enjoyed browsing your website and it brought back a flood of memories of 15 formative years. I was born in Croy Cottage at Killearn Station in 1948. My parents built a house on Drumbeg Loan where we moved in 1951. I went to Killearn Primary School and in due course Balfron High before moving away in 1964 (though I returned for a couple of summers to work at Laighparks Farm) to live briefly in Edinburgh then Dundee then back to Edinburgh, followed by Glasgow, Leicester and now rural Oakham. I "googled Killearn" as a precursor to a visit later this month to show some of my children where I came from.

Hello,
I have just passed through Killearn today and was amzed to see the rebuilding working taking place at Killearn House. The last time I was there was 20 years ago and had to cross the field and the river so the farmer wouldn't chase us!!!
